Euro 2008 - GO ITALIA!!!

"World champions Italy qualified for the UEFA EURO 2008™ quarter-finals in dramatic fashion on Tuesday as they defeated France 2-0 at the Letzigrund Stadion and Romania lost by the same score to the Netherlands."

What a night!! Since the 7th of June every night has been filled with soccer games and each night gets more intense as the teams look like they will be eliminated. Tonight was the last match for group C (Italy's group). At 8:30pm tonight when the games began, Holland was securely in first place, Romania was in second, and Italy and France were tied in third place. Only the top two teams in each group move on to the semi-finals. In order for Italy to move into the second position, they had to beat France and Romania had to either tie with Holland or lose. Both these games were played at the same time. Italy scored its first goal in the first half giving them hope and excitement for a potential win. Then in the second half of both games Holland scored a goal against Romania. The crowd as well as my neighbors were going wild. Italy was now in the second place in group C. Italy then scored a second goal and continued to keep France from scoring anything. They have moved into the semi-finals and will play Spain on Sunday.

It was so great to watch and hear, outside my windows, a country rally together and enjoy one another. The excitement and spirit draw you in. Outside my window there are people singing, horns honking, and loud cheers which will probably continue late into the night. Normally the loud noises outside my window when I am trying to sleep are a frustration, but tonight it only makes me smile.
VIVA ITALIA!!
