Wine is in abundance!

Here is another interesting experience. Some friends of mine showed me where they buy their wine. We drove to a place called Pila that is right outside of Perugia where the Goretti vineyards are located. On the property there is a 14th century tower that once was a look out post for the city of Perugia. Under the tower, tunnels were built for an escape route. The family converted these tunnels into wine cellars and their antique tradition of wine-making as well as the cellars have been handed down from father to sons.
The place is beautiful and has a bed and breakfast nearby, but I would not suggest staying there because also nearby is a pig farm(extreme odors). I experienced the smell first hand when we went to get wine on a rainy day. It was an horrendous first breathe as I got out of the car!
So, when we went into the store there were many bottles of expensive wine on shelves, but to the right were 4 metal containers with hoses that looked like gas pumps. This was the house wines that they pump directly from the cellars. The hoses I was told were very long so that they could extend to outside the door for filling large containers in the back of trucks (like for the bed & breakfast).
My friends were stocking up on wine for a house guest and so I decided to get some too. As a first time buyer I had to purchase a jug for the wine. Oh yes I failed to mention, I was getting 5 liters for the low price of 6 Euro(much better than you could buy in the store and much better quality). My friends said it was the usual amount they got and it would not go bad in a month.
You can tell by the picture that my last several months building up a good alcohol tolerance was not in vain! I have enjoyed at least a glass a day and look forward to sharing the experience when you come to visit!
